The First Mercedes-Benz Vito Luxury passenger van delivered to Malkey rent-a-car

Malkey Rent A Car took over the delivery of Sri Lanka’s first Mercedes-Benz Vito 116 luxury passenger vans with a custom interior offering Business Class ottoman seats with 3 point seat belts and an Android enabled multimedia system among many ‘firsts’ on offer to the Sri Lankan travel industry.

The first new Vito cargo version order was placed by DHL Sri Lanka and the bright yellow colored Mercedes-Benz vans are already in operation. The first new Vito passenger version order was placed by Malkey Rent A Car, and it was a special order. They took delivery of a Vito Mixto which is the extra longer wheel base version and with even more luxury than the existing Mercedes-Benz passenger vans. The vans are equipped with the 7speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic paddle shift and capable of carrying up to 10 passengers in luxurious comfort. Moreover enhance safety features such as driver drowsiness detection, cross wind assist, brake assist, traction control and LED intelligent lights are also packed in this Mercedes-Benz Vito.

DIMO appoints 4 new directors to the Board

Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO) recently appointed four new directors to its Board effective from 1st June 2016. The new directors are Mr Asite Talwatte, Mr Vijitha Bandara, Mr Wijith Pushpawela and Mr Chaminda Ranawana.

Mr Asite Talwatte is the former Country Managing Partner at Ernst & Young, a position in which he served for over a decade. He brings with him vast experience gleaned over a career spanning 37 years at the premier corporate accounting firm, which includes experience at the Company’s offices in Cleveland, Ohio. He currently serves as Chairman of Management Systems (Pvt) Limited (MSL).

Mr Talwatte holds a MBA from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura and is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accounts of the U.K, (CIMA) and served as President of ICASL and CIMA in 2002/2003 and 1995/96 respectively. He presently chairs the Committee to review the applicability of Integrated Reporting in Sri Lanka as well as the Committee reviewing the Corporate Governance Code. He has also served as a non-executive director on boards of listed companies, public companies and state owned enterprises.

Mr Vijitha Bandara counts over 20 years of experience in Management and Marketing. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate from the University of Southern Queensland Australia and a Diploma in Business Management from the University of Colombo. At the time of his appointment, he was also a member of the Group Management Committee and also the Chief Operating Officer of TATA Commercial and Passenger Vehicles at DIMO.

Mr Wijith Pushpawela is a Mechanical Engineer and holds a degree from the University of Greenwich, UK. He possesses over 20 years of experience in Engineering and Management. At the time of his appointment, he was also a member of the Group Management Committee, Director and Chief Operating Officer of DIMO (Pvt) Ltd. His work experience prior to joining DIMO includes serving as a Research Engineer in UK.

Mr Chaminda Ranawana holds a MBA from Warnaborough University-UK, and counts over 30 years of experience in the Storage, Material Handling Equipment and Construction Machinery industry including Senior Management positions. Having commenced his career at the Hayleys Group, he moved on to United Tractor and Equipment Ltd, prior to joining DIMO. At the time of his appointment, he was also a member of the Group Management Committee, Director of DIMO (Pvt) Ltd and also the Chief Operating Officer of Construction & Mining, Storage & Material Handling and Fluid Management businesses.

The MercedesTrophy 2015 will be held at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club amidst a grand celebration of epic proportions. The climax of the series is the world final, which for years has been held traditionally in and around Stuttgart, the “cradle of the automobile”. This venue underlines the close relations between the brand Mercedes-Benz and golf. The top winners in each handicap categories will qualify for the Asian final, with an all-expenses paid trip to Australia. The winner of each handicap category at the Asian Final will qualify for the World Final in Stuttgart, Germany. Alongside their sporting activities, the participants were able to experience the brand and its products at close hand with guided tours of the Mercedes-Benz Museum, the Sindelfingen plant and Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach, as well as test drives in the latest models.
