From our modest beginnings in 1939 as an automobile sales and repair concern, to growing into a diversified conglomerate operating in ten sectors, today we are one of Sri Lanka’s leading Public Listed Companies contributing to the economy and enriching the lives of Sri Lankans. We are committed to creating value responsibly and with integrity, representing some of the best global brands, and building successful brands under the DIMO umbrella.
DIMO was founded in 1939 by four entrepreneurs, Stephen Peries, Pandithage Don Alexander, Cyril Algama and Harold Algama. By 1945 DIMO was incorporated as a private, limited liability company and in 1949, DIMO went into partnership with Mr. F. K. Heller, a representative of Lohmann & Company (Germany). Mr Heller had launched Heller and Company in Sri Lanka in 1932, with the distributorship of several great German brands - Mercedes-Benz, Bosch and Siemens. His active partnership with DIMO led to a significant expansion of the business. In 1964, it was converted into a Public Quoted Company by listing at what was then known as the Colombo Brokers’ Association.
Although the company’s initial core business was automobile sales and repairs, it has grown in size and scope over the past eight decades to offer products and services that range from seeds and fertilizers to medical engineering. Today, DIMO is a leading diversified conglomerate in Sri Lanka, with over 1,800 employees, and an annual turnover of Rs. 37 billion (2021/2022).
