Life at DIMO

We are a family of individuals working together towards a common goal. It’s our ability to work together that fuels our dreams and aspirations and makes them believable and, ultimately, achievable. We encourage a culture of creativity and trust where each employee has the opportunity to thrive in diverse, interdisciplinary teams that allow them to play to their strengths and share ideas freely. Our uniqueness is in our culture – a very warm, close-knit group of people. Together, we create a safe, inclusive, diverse, and supportive workplace for our people.

We have always presented ourselves as an equal opportunity employer that prioritizes meritocracy. We understand the challenges women face in entering an industry such as automobile or engineering, which is why we are one of the 15 pioneering organisations in Sri Lanka who worked towards women’s economic empowerment and delivered on all its commitments successfully during the ‘She Works’ Private Sector Partnership established by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in partnership with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Through continuous advocacy for gender equality, equal opportunity and meritocracy, we have been able to increase the recruitment of women from 7% to 11% within a span of two years. We have an employee resource group which acts as a platform to amplify the dialogue around respectful and dignified work environments, and the business case for gender equality and women in leadership. This has resulted in a 5% increase in women in leadership roles within a span of just one year. By demonstrating support and creating awareness for women in STEM fields both within the organisation and in many public forums, we have been able to increase the number of women in non-conventional jobs (Auto Technicians and Engineers) by 15% over the past three years.

DIMO is an equal opportunity employer, and we do not discriminate based on age, gender, race, religion, disability, parental responsibilities, marital status or sexual orientation. We believe in ‘culture add’, where we include diverse people and encourage them to bring their unique perspective to the table to solve business problems in the most creative ways.

We want our business to resonate with the people in our environment and the communities we serve. Our best practices in fostering an inclusive culture over the past has led to DIMO winning the category award for ‘Excellence in People Initiative – Inclusive Culture’ at the Great Place To Work Awards 2021.

Our career progression processes are heavily driven on the basis of meritocracy. We believe in providing the right opportunities to the right talents. If you deliver on your work consistently, bring your authentic self to work and are open for continuous learning, we will provide a promising platform for personal and professional growth.

We have many success stories of people who have begun at entry level and progressed within the organization to take up senior managerial roles. We also have employees who have joined DIMO as novices and moved on to other roles with an eminent profile.

To build future ready organization we need to change how we divide and do the work, how we share data and how we organise teams. We need talent that can transform themselves and transform organizations in the most chaotic situation. This is a huge task that we have never tried before.
