DIMO Inspires Young Minds to Protect Urban Wetlands Through “Living in a Wetland Capital City” Initiative

As part of its DIMO “Lassana Hetak” sustainability initiative, DIMO continues to foster environmental awareness among the younger generation through the “Living in a Wetland Capital City” series. Conducted in collaboration with Greensphere Pvt Ltd and the LOVE A TREE Foundation, the program aims to educate urban children on the importance of preserving Sri Lanka’s vital wetland ecosystems.

The fourth session was successfully held on 21st October 2025 at Dharmashoka Kanishta Vidyalaya, Maharagama, with the participation of 84 students. At the request of the school principal, a special birdwatching segment was introduced—encouraging children to connect with nature to enhance their emotional, physical, and mental well-being, in line with recommendations by the National Child Protection Authority. Narmadha Dangampola from Greensphere Nature Studies guided the students in observing birds and maintaining nature journals, inspiring them to appreciate biodiversity while nurturing mindfulness and environmental stewardship.

Through such initiatives, DIMO continues to champion sustainable education, empowering the nation’s youth to become future custodians of Sri Lanka’s natural heritage.
