Field Visit to Dambulla 2024

The visit offered our DIMO Tribe members the chance to explore the unique biodiversity and cultural heritage of Sri Lanka's dry zone, guided by the expertise of renowned zoologist and reptilian specialist, Mr. Mendis Wickramasinghe. The visit took place in November 2024, with a participation of 25 DIMO Nature Club members. During the visit, members were able to see

Popham’s Arboretum: A pioneering dry-zone forest reserve renowned for its exceptional biodiversity & for elusive Gray Slender Loris. Members enjoyed a guided walk through the arboretum, learning about native flora and fauna.

Kaudulla National Park: Famous for its large elephant gatherings, this park provided an unforgettable wildlife experience. The group observed elephants in their natural habitat while also gaining insights into the park's role in dry-zone conservation.

Ritigala Strict Nature Reserve: One of Sri Lanka’s three Strict Nature Reserves, Ritigala combines natural beauty with rich archaeological significance. Members explored ancient ruins and learned about the ecological importance of this protected area.

Pidurangala Rock: Known for its breathtaking panoramic views, this destination offered an incredible perspective of Sigiriya Rock, making it a favorite among global travelers.
