As part of its flagship sustainability initiative, “Lassana Hetak,” DIMO continues to inspire the next generation to embrace environmental stewardship and community responsibility. On 29th September 2025, DIMO, in collaboration with Greensphere Pvt Ltd and the LOVE A TREE Foundation, conducted the second session of the “Living in a Wetland Capital City” awareness series – a program designed to help children appreciate the ecological and social value of urban wetlands within their communities.
The latest session was held at Vidyaloka Vidyalaya, Hokandara, engaging over 80 enthusiastic students. The program was facilitated by Ms. Narmadha Dangampola from Greensphere Nature Studies, who guided students through hands-on activities and interactive discussions on the importance of wetlands in maintaining biodiversity, climate balance, and sustainable urban living.
Children expressed heartfelt appreciation for the initiative, with one participant sharing, “I learned how to love and take care of our wetlands. Now I understand what we as children can do to protect our environment.”
Through initiatives such as this, DIMO continues to reaffirm its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action) – by empowering young minds to become active custodians of their environment.
The “Living in a Wetland Capital City” series reflects DIMO’s broader vision under Lassana Hetak to build a greener, more sustainable Sri Lanka, fostering meaningful partnerships with like-minded organizations to make a lasting positive impact on both people and the planet.
