Kumana

Nestled in the eastern expanse of Sri Lanka, Kumana National Park stands as a proud sanctuary for the full spectrum of Sri Lankan wildlife, from majestic Elephants to the elusive Leopards. Kumana’s wetlands are known to attract avian species like Herons that commonly seek out bodies of water.

Kumana's claim to fame, however, lies in its role as a guardian of endemic species. The Sri Lankan Junglefowl, adorned with vibrant plumage, and the Brown-Capped Babbler, a songbird of charm, call this place home. Their presence adds an enchanting element to the park's already vibrant tapestry of life. For birdwatchers, Kumana is nothing short of an avian paradise. The park hosts a diverse array of bird species, including the striking Black-necked Stork and the resplendent Indian Peafowl, a symbol of beauty and grace.

Beneath the wild beauty of Kumana lies a hidden treasure, the ancient Kudumbigala Monastery. This sacred site served as a refuge for monks in search of solitude and enlightenment for centuries. The monastery adds a profound historical dimension to the park's allure, giving visitors a chance to connect with the island's spiritual and cultural heritage.
