The “Biplane Digital Subtraction Angiography Unit” is the only sophisticated medical equipment to offer Interventional Radiology that utilizes minimally-invasive image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases in nearly every organ system. The concept behind interventional radiology is to diagnose and treat patients using the least invasive techniques thereby avoiding major surgery in order to minimize risk to the patient and improve health outcomes.

The Solution

The Siemens Artis zee biplane system is designed with two large (30×40) detectors that offer excellent coverage and flexibility for a broad applications spectrum, including neuro, spine and abdominal imaging. The Artis zee imaging chain enables improved visualization of therapeutic devices, as well as a range of advanced 3D applications that allow for greater speed and precision. The new application syngo iFlow from Siemens makes it possible for the first time to demonstrate a complete digital subtraction angiography (DSA) sequence in a single color image. Previously, multiple black and white image frames had to be reviewed to visualize the contrast medium flow through the blood vessels. Now with the colors of syngo iFlow the representation of contrast from its initial entry into the blood vessels to its flow throughout can be shown in one image.

The system is supported by the Siemens Global Support Center which it monitors on a continuous basis for any possible system error. In addition, the system is supported by the 24-hour DIMO medical support service team that assures a timely response to any unlikely emergency that may occur.

Previously, patients would have to embark on expensive international travel in-order to receive cutting-edge medical services similar to those offered by the Siemens Angio-Biplane. Now, first-class diagnosis and treatment is within the reach of every Sri Lankan to receive the best possible medical care available.
