Project Life- The multi -company Public Private Partnership which was established to restore and manage a degraded fern land in Kanneliya Conservation was started in February 2018. DIMO is a proud partner of the project with 9 other private sector partners, Biodiversity Sri Lanka, IUCN and Forest Department.
A project partner visit was done recently to the project site in Kanneliya where the restoration will take place over the next 5 years.
The IUCN, technical partner has assessed the biodiversity in the area and explained the gathering how the nurseries will be established with the support of villagers, pilot plots will be first established with small shady plants and the endemic plants will then be introduced in the site. As precautions to protect the restoration site, fencing has already commenced covering the land area of 10 hectares.
The conservation efforts of this project will result in developing a Biodiversity Credit Accrual System, in which the values will be calculated based on the enhancement of the ecological functions, habitat quality and species quality through restoration.
