DIMO – DHYBRID GmbH consortium signed the contract with Lanka Electricity Company (Pvt) Ltd (LECO) to construct Sri Lanka’s first ever national grid-tied renewable energy based microgrid at the premises of University of Moratuwa. This project is funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB), and will embark a new paradigm in the field of distributed generation in Sri Lanka.

Instead of just being a conventional microgrid, this contains a research and development facility which will be an incubator and operational test bed for innovative smart grid movements and microgrids in Sri Lanka. LECO plans to replicate the project in the long run in order to improve efficiency, reliability, resilience and independence over the traditional utility grid.
