DIMO’s exclusive community based road safety programme series “පරිස්සමට පොරොන්දුවක්” concluded its 4th stage in Trincomalee on 15th November 2018. This programme was also designed targeting the paddle cyclists, in order to increase awareness on road safety and to provide them with necessary safety gears. During the programme, 75 cyclists who did not have required safety features in their bicycles were identified and an awareness session was conducted on importance of adhering to safety measures. A dynamo light and a reflector sticker was fixed on each bicycle by DIMO volunteers. A key tag that includes safety information important to cyclists in their local language was also provided to each participant. Mr Akila Jayalath representing WD-40 also joined and conducted a product demonstration to the cyclists gathered at the venue.
The programme was done in partnership with Sri Lanka Police in Uppuweli area, in close proximity to DIMO’s Trincomalee Branch. This community service launched by DIMO was well-received by Trincomalee community. The crowd that gathered expressed their gratitude towards DIMO for launching a timely programme that would benefit the individuals and public of the area. The active participation received from Trincomalee Branch Service Team and the support given by Mr Sasanka Chaminda, Mr Rohan Karunarathna, Mr Ajith Wickramasekara and Mr Gihan De Silva immensely contributed towards the success of the project.
