It was a Sunday morning that brought with it a taste of the luxury lifestyle as Mercedes-Benz Club of Sri Lanka together with Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO) successfully organised “Sunday Drive” for Mercedes-Benz owners. DIMO is Sri Lanka’s automotive pioneer and the only Authorized General Distributor for Mercedes-Benz in the island.
A number of Mercedes-Benz cars, including old classics, young classics and the latest, state-of-the-art models, were on the drive at the gathering. This event, along with several others that have been organised over the years, was about bringing all Mercedes-Benz owners and enthusiasts together to one location followed by a drive together where they can experience a unique event that is tailor-made to enable them to demonstrate their love and passion for the ‘Star’. Participants got the chance to proudly show off Mercedes-Benz vehicles, admire other Mercedes vehicles of today and yesteryear both during the drive and after, and share intricate knowledge of their vehicles. By observing the range of models on display, they also got the opportunity to educate themselves on how Mercedes-Benz has evolved over the years while always enduring as the gold standard of automobile engineering since the birth of the automobile.
The drive commenced with the group taking off from Green Path and travelling around the near-empty Sunday morning streets of Colombo. The lineup of gleaming Mercedes-Benz cars gained looks of admiration from the general public at every turn, as they made their way to the Navam Mawatha car park. Little ones, who undoubtedly will become the next generation of proud Mercedes-Benz owners, thoroughly enjoyed the time spent riding in their parents’ Mercedes-Benz cars. At their destination, the owners had the opportunity to get up close and personal with all the Mercedes-Benz models on display. Refreshments were served as they shared their memories, related their experiences and compared notes about their journey with Mercedes-Benz. DIMO’s 24-hour Roadside Assistance vehicle was available throughout, in the event of a vehicle breakdown or accident.

DIMO Women’s Network; a collaborative Employee Resource Group for female employees of DIMO was launched on 19th November 2018 under the patronage of Mr. Ranjith Pandithage (Chairman and Managing Director – DIMO).
The event began with a customary address by Mr. Ranjith Pandithage. He was followed by Ms Dilrukshi Kurukulasuriya who spoke on the topic of ‘Achieving Equity for Men & Women in the Workplace’. She elaborated the business case for establishing a women’s resource group within the organization and encouraged everyone to understand the importance of creating a diverse and inclusive organization.
Ms. Carmen Niethammer – Women in Work Program Manager and Ms Aarthy Arunasalam – Women in Work Employment Lead attached to IFC Sri Lanka, also attended the event as special guests and shared their experience and success stories of Women’s Networks across the world.
The Women’s Network was launched thereafter. Mr. Gahanath Pandithage – Group CEO, Mr. Suresh Gooneratne – Executive Director, Mr. Asanga Ranasinghe – Executive Director/ CMO and Mr. Samantha Gunawardena – General Manager – Building Technologies Department, pledged their support to the Women’s Network as Sponsors.
The network will be headed by Ms. Dilrukshi Kurukulasuriya. Ms. Nilushi Thenuwara, Ms. Sayuri Sumithrarachchi, Ms. Raehana Raban, Ms. Dilka Gamage, Mr. Navin Rupasinghe and Ms. Rochelle Vandort were appointed as Executive Committee members. The Sub Committee members include Ms. Madurika Samarasekera, Mr. Yohan Thilakarathne, Ms. Thilini Fernando, Ms. Jayadini Egodawaththa, Ms. Ushani Samaranayake, Ms. Suchira Hapurugala, Mr. Bhathiya Jayawardena, Ms. Ishara Danansooriya, Ms. Suwatthi Kandiah and Ms. Praneetha De Silva.

All participants took a pledge to support the women’s network achieve the above objectives and create a gender smart organization. They read the Network Pledge and signed their name on the pledge wall showcasing their commitment.
Another highlight of the event was the recognition of DIMO Wonder Women. DIMO ladies who were nominated by their team members as wonder women on International Women’s Day in March 2018, were felicitated at the event.
Members of the DIMO Board of Directors, Group Management Committee, Dr. Jeevani Jayasinghe – Chairperson of Women in Engineering, DIMO Managers and a large gathering of male and female DIMO tribe members attended the event.

A Komatsu Machine Maintenance Seminar was conducted in Anuradhapura on the 07th and 08th of July 2018, which was organized by CMD Product Support Division. The focused participants were Komatsu Machines Owners, Decision Makers, Maintenance Staff & Operators of Northern, North Central, Eastern and North Western provinces of the country. Over 290 participants including Machine Owners, Engineers, Supervisors and Machine Operators attended the event. The participants were made aware of the Construction Machinery product range, importance and benefits of adherence to manufacturer recommended preventive maintenance services, use of Genuine Spare Parts, benefits of using genuine undercarriage components, importance of Komtrax (Komatsu Machine Tracking System) and importance of proper operating practices and safety procedures.
The above seminar was conducted as two separate programs on the two consecutive days, 07th and 8th July. On 07th of July, a seminar was conducted at Randiya Hotel for Machine Supervisors and Machine Operators with the emphasis of improving their knowledge on machine operation, preventive maintenance and safety practices. On the 08th of July, another seminar was conducted for Machine Owners, Decision Makers & Engineers at Rajarata Hotel. The main objectives of the seminar was to enhance the participants’ awareness on benefits of following manufacture recommended preventive maintenance and the values & benifits of using Genuine Spare Parts.
The Welcome Speeches were made by Mr Chaminda Ranawana (Executive Director) & Mr Ruparatne Ranasinghe (Head of Customer Support & Services). The product range presentation was delivered by Mr Dammika Samaranayake (Application Manager), Preventive Machine Maintenance & Komtrax System by Mr Tharaka Kularathne (Customer Support Services Engineer), Importance of Using Genuine Undercarriage Components by Mr Kanishka Gunasekara (Business Unit Manager- Customer Support Services), Correct Usage of Machines by Mr Chanaka Fernando (Customer Support Services Engineer), Correct Breaker Operations by Mr Vidura Weerasena (Customer Support Services Advisor), Workshop Facilities by Mr Thilanka Bandara (Business Unit Manager- Services) and Importance of Using Genuine Spare Parts by Mr Pubudu Senevirathna (Business Unit Manager – Parts Operation).
Business Development Team of DIMO Engine Care and BOSCH Diesel Centre organized a cocktail on 14th of June 2018 at DIMO Jaffna Branch.
Sixty garage owners and fleet owners in Jaffna participated at the function and the core objective of organizing the event was to strengthen up the relationship with the customers.
Mr Rasika Katugaha, Mr Dinesh Kumar, Mr Harindu Porambage, Mr Gominath Sivagnanam, Mr Piratheepan Sithamparanathan, Mr Ashan Kumarathunga, Mr Upul Hettiarachchi and the staff members of Engine Care, BOSCH Diesel Centre, DIMO Jaffna Branch together with Jaffna DATS participated at the function.
Reaching an important milestone, Siam City Cement Lanka Ltd signed a new agreement with DIMO for a Full Maintenance Contract on 30th of May 2018, for the next 10 years (2018-2028) for the newly purchased HD465-7R Dump Trucks. Komatsu HD465-7R are the biggest-ever Komatsu Dump Trucks (Pay Load-55 MT) brought to Sri Lanka.
DIMO started its FMC (Full Maintenance Contract) in 2004 with Holcim and continued until 2016. In 2015 DIMO delivered Komatsu D375A-6R Bulldozer to Holcim which was also the largest bulldozer to supply in Sri Lanka. Subsequently, after the change of ownership from Holcim to Siam City Cement Lanka Ltd (SCCL) in 2016, DIMO continued the FMC with SCCL. DIMO has successfully completed 15 years (2004-2018) FMC operation for the 3 Komatsu HD325-6 Dump Trucks (Pay Load-36 MT) to date.
The Agreement was signed and exchanged between Mr.Nandana Ekanayake (CEO of Siam City Cement (Lanka) and Mr.Ranjith Pandithage (Chairman and Managing Director of DIMO). Director of Procurement & Logistics at SCCL Mr.Thusith Gunawarnasuriya, Quarry Manager Mr.Wathsara Wedage, Executive Director of DIMO Mr.Chaminda Ranawana and Business Unit Manager Mr.Thilanka Bandara were present at the contract signing ceremony which was held at SCCL Head Office.
