Oddamavadi Bridge

Oddamavadi Bridge, located in Oddamavadi in the Eastern Province, spans the Valaichchenai Lagoon along the A15 Batticaloa-Trincomalee Highway. This unique bridge complex consists of two structures: a historic British Ceylon era truss bridge built in 1924, which functions as a combined road-rail crossing, and a newer two-lane cantilever bridge, completed in 2010, measuring 257.35m in length and 10.5m in width. As Sri Lanka’s second road-rail bridge after Manampitiya Bridge, Oddamavadi Bridge plays a vital role in connecting key regions, facilitating the smooth movement of both vehicles and trains, and boosting economic activity in the Eastern Province. The bridge’s dual function and blend of colonial era engineering with modern design highlight its historical and infrastructural significance, making it a critical link for transportation and regional development.
