MercedesTrophy 25th Anniversary Tournament to be played at Nuwara Eliya

Owners of the three-pointed star who are passionate about golf can look forward to teeing off in style, as Mercedes-Benz celebrates the Silver Jubilee of Sri Lanka’s most exclusive golfing tournament – the MercedesTrophy. The MercedesTrophy 2015 will be held at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club amidst a grand celebration of epic proportions. Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO), the Authorized General Distributor for Mercedes-Benz in Sri Lanka is proud to sponsor the 25th Anniversary of this exclusive and prestigious tournament.

MercedesTrophy is once again here to transform a pure sporting extravaganza into a ‘lifestyle brand experience’. The participants of this tournament comprise of distinguished achievers from all walks of life and many find this event a great opportunity to meet and interact with other Mercedes-Benz owners.

Sri Lanka’s top golfing community will be gathering at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club on 23rd of May 2015 for the MercedesTrophy Sri Lanka Country Finals. This event promises to gather the most elite golfing community and boasts to be the most exclusive sporting event in the Sri Lankan sporting calendar, where participation is limited to owners of Mercedes-Benz, Jeep & Chrysler vehicles. Moreover, this is a highly anticipated tournament among the golfing fraternity solely due to the prestige and the rewards which await the winners. The winners stand the chance to compete in the MercedesTrophy Asian Finals and if successful compete in the world finals in Germany.

To commemorate the Silver Jubilee, DIMO will be offering a brand new Mercedes-Benz passenger car as the hole-in-one prize. There will be three handicap groups for men (Division A : 3-12, Division B : 13-20, Division C : 21-24) and one handicap group for women (Division D 0-36). In 1989 when the first MercedesTrophy was held, six European countries took part. 25 years later, there are now more than 60,000 participants every year – and over the year’s nearly a million customers and fans of the brand have teed off at the MercedesTrophy, all over the world.

The climax of the series is the world final, which for years has been held traditionally in and around Stuttgart, the “cradle of the automobile”. This venue underlines the close relations between the brand Mercedes-Benz and golf. The top winners in each handicap categories will qualify for the Asian final, with an all-expenses paid trip to Australia. The winner of each handicap category at the Asian Final will qualify for the World Final in Stuttgart, Germany. Alongside their sporting activities, the participants were able to experience the brand and its products at close hand with guided tours of the Mercedes-Benz Museum, the Sindelfingen plant and Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach, as well as test drives in the latest models.

The iconic Jeep brand is recognized the world over – forever tied to freedom, capability and adventure. DIMO relaunched the Jeep Brand 21.03.2015 at the Jet wing Blue Hotel (Beach), Negombo. Jeep enthusiasts and their families witnessed a great demonstration of the off-road capabilities of Jeep vehicles, on a custom built track on the beach. Fireworks, unlimited entertainment, launch of the Jeep Club and a great collection of old and new Jeeps made the evening a memorable one.

A part of the beach stretch was converted on to a test track that tested the Jeep’s capabilities on different terrains such as mud, rock, sand and logs. Customers had the opportunity to test drive the brand new range of Jeep® vehicles as well as their own vehicles on this test track. The day also marked the inauguration of the Jeep Club of Sri Lanka, a club established by likeminded enthusiasts, keen on wandering the wilderness, spreading the wings of freedom while pushing their Jeeps beyond the limit.
